Will No One Stop the Madness?

I truly may go insane sometime between now and November if people don't get. a. grip.

First of all, the pastor insanity must stop. Hagee! Wright! Pfleger! Get me a gun!

Here's the astonishing thing about it all. People will sometimes say dumbass shit. I know! I'm as shocked as you are! And furthermore, people will sometimes use religion to bolster their dumbass shit! I know! Shocking again! This has NEVER happened before EVER IN THE WHOLE HISTORY OF HUMANITY! History is being made, folks. Who could have foreseen this?

I simply cannot understand the pathological, obsessive desire we have to make every political candidate answer for everything ever said by anyone who happens to voice support for them. But instead of losing our collective shit as a nation, let's do our best to adopt a more reasonable plan of action.

Step 1: When someone opens their yap, we will listen to what they have to say.

Step 2: We will evaluate it, using our own good sense and dialogue with others.

Step 3a: If their remarks are judged to be reasonable, we will engage them. We will consider them. We will build on them.

Step 3b: If their remarks are judged to be the product of a deranged mind, we will not ignore them. They still must be answered. But we will not further legitimize them by behaving as though the entire future of our national dialogue rests on what they have to say.

Step 4: We will feel free NOT to make everyone associated responsible for the actions of the moronic few. Once again, we will use our own good sense. We will not suppose that political candidates have all the time in the world to monitor every utterance from every person who has supported them in the past, supports them now, or might support them in the future. We will realize that making one person answerable for the beliefs of another person does not do anyone any good. AT ALL.

And here's another thing I don't want to hear about, ever again. I don't want to hear about the delegations of Michigan and Florida. I fail to see why this is difficult for people to understand. No one is being disenfranchised. If votes are collected under false pretenses, without the voters being informed of the relevant facts, that would be disenfranchisement. If people were prohibited from voting based on race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, income level or any other such categories, that would be disenfranchisement. If people were kept locked in a closet at gunpoint so that they couldn't vote, that would be disenfranchisement.

However, voting, like everything else in the world, is subject to rules. We cannot vote on anything at any time. I do not suppose that my right to vote allows me to march into city hall at any point in time and demand a ballot. I do not suppose that my right to vote entitles me to vote at any polling place I so choose. I do not suppose that my right to vote entitles me to vote on any office, regardless of whether that office is up for election, or for any referendum, regardless of whether it has received enough signatures to be placed on the ballot.

I understand that my ability to vote is contingent on my following rules regarding time, place and manner. Every single time I cast a ballot, I understand this. I understand that failing to follow these clearly communicated rules will result in my ballot not being counted. Why is that so hard for Michigan and Florida to understand? I don't think I'm all that smart. Can I really be smarter than the entire delegations of Michigan and Florida?

THEY BROKE THE RULES. Then they had opportunity to right the situation by holding a re-vote. They decided against that. No one got tricked into anything. No one was misinformed. No one was hoodwinked. No one was disenfranchised. If Michigan and Florida voters want to blame anyone, they should blame their idiot party leaders for their basic lack of common sense, and for their refusal to take steps to fix the mess they made.

This is like third grade level logic here. Break the rules, and there might be unwelcome consequences. Come on, people. Do try to keep up.
